Downsizing your home does not have to mean foregoing personal taste and treasured objects collected over a lifetime. This week on the blog, we look at a project that allowed our clients to maintain their most loved furniture and art – despite a massive downsize.
The living room of the home is off the front door foyer and sets the first impression for visitors. It is intimate and elegant, the perfect space for an evening cocktail party.
We installed textured grass cloth wall coverings, creating a dramatic and luxurious feel. A tone-on-tone bamboo silk rug was selected to add a subtle graphic in the space. The arm chair was an existing Switzer chair from the clients’ own collection. We re-imagined the chair with a new paint job and cut velvet leopard print fabric.
The small nook to the left of the fireplace created the perfect spot to showcase a singularly bold dragon root floor lamp. The base of the lamp was so sculpture-like that we layered it in front of a mirror to showcase it from all sides.
A closer look at this stunner:
A custom sofa was created with a unique back. The notched detailing of the sofa creates architectural interest as well as per the clients’ request, allows more natural light into the room.
The clients’ own stunning tapestry influenced the tone and palette for the room. The striking black built-ins echo the frame on the tapestry and provides hidden storage.
We were so pleased we were able to incorporate some treasured pieces into the clients’ downsized living room, providing them with a comfortable and elegant entertaining space.
