For one week in the autumn, Highpoint, North Carolina becomes a hub of activity for people in the furniture business. Being a furniture aficionado myself I have always wanted to visit Highpoint during the market. After all, this is the place where most North American furniture is made and where the newest models and trends are showcased. It is a huge market, consisting of several large buildings with floor upon floor of furniture showrooms. My expectation was that it would be overwhelming – my senses completely assaulted by the sheer volume of amazing things for me to see. I also thought I would see upcoming trends that local retailers would be soon showcasing (future blog post alert) and that the booths themselves would be works of art. Lastly, I guessed that my feet would be very sore. I wasn’t wrong on any of those predictions and the market exceeded my expectations leaving me feeling exhilarated and inspired by the furniture, accessories and lighting. I immediately began picturing how I could incorporate these products into our Calgary Interior Design projects. Here is a small selection of my favorite vendors I came across the first day of market.
Glass Lamps and Hanging pendants by Barbara Cosgrove Lamps
Quail by Barbara Cosgrove Lamps
I came across some amazing light fixtures and lamps by Barbara Cosgrove and I was completely taken with her collection. Varying from classic to modern, this grouping of light fixtures had everything a designer could dream about!
Kirin Sofa and Duncan Chair by Oly Studio
Coral Side Chair and Sienna Chair by Oly Studio
Ingrid Upholstered Bed by Oly Studio
The Oly Studio showroom was a showstopper for me. I could have moved right in. Seriously, this showroom had me rethinking my existing furniture choices!
Beauford pillow and Greek Key pillow by Dransfield and Ross
Trident Stripe pillow and Sag Harbor Frame pillow by Dransfield and Ross
Moonlight Garden Guest Towel & Pagoda napkin ring by Dransfield and Ross
Another big hit for me was a supplier of pillows and table linens called Dransfield and Ross. Their collection of pillows was extensive and exquistly crafted. The table top collection was utterly charming!
Claremont chair and Whitby chair by Julian Chichester
Anna Tall cabinet and Pollcok Vellum cabinet by Julian Chichester
Felix 1 drawer nightstand by Julian Chichester
Julian Chichester carries an interesting collection of furniture featuring unique pieces. Mixing eclectic, vintage, industrial and antique inspired pieces this showroom was one of my favorites.
That, my friends, is a little taste of what I saw the first day at Highpoint Furniture Market. It was an incredible experience and I’m so glad that I came for the show. I felt like a kid in a candy shop! I’ll fill you in more about my second day, and some of the trends that were displayed in upcoming posts.
