Las Vegas Furniture Market 2014

Furniture is not usually the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of Las Vegas. But over the years, the Las Vegas Furniture Market has become the go-to show for furniture and home decor for interior designers and decorators. Earlier this year, Corea Sotropa sent two delegates, Patti & Brittany L to check out this huge trade show. They toured the booths, found new suppliers, learned lots and even met Donny Osmond (but that’s another story). Here are just a few of the trends they spotted while at the show.

140207_Blue-UpholsteryBlue velvet was everywhere. Admittedly, this trend has been around for a while, but it is totally mainstream now. There is something completely irresistible about a piece of furniture upholstered in heavenly blue velvet. Luckily for us designers, it’s not such a stretch for clients anymore. Did you know that blue has repeatedly been proven to be the most favourite colour worldwide? So if it’s your favourite, why not add a gorgeous piece of upholstery in this fabulous shade? It’s a natural choice.

140210_Metals-Gilded gold and silver home decor items appeared in every shape, size and style. Even rustic pieces gleamed with touches of these sparkling metals. Try mixing items of both gold and silver in the same room. It is a more eclectic and unexpected design choice that adds interest to your decor. Trust me, you are not breaking any design rules here!
140207_Traditional-Forms-Post1Traditional shapes often took on a modern edge. These examples of reinterpreted classic pieces are so whimsical and unique. They would definitely be a conversation starter in any room. I especially adore the grandfather clock carved out of the yellow box. You barely see grandfather clocks used by designers anymore because there are so few variations on the typical style. This quirky version would be one I could actually envision using.
140207_Color-and-Pattern1Jewel tones and saturated colours were celebrated. Everything from pillows, furniture, rugs and even light fixtures embraced the trend of bright hues. These vibrant tones are uplifting and adding just one item would enliven any space.

Brittany L and Patti had very sore feet after their trip to the market! They covered the show from top to bottom searching for new ideas and suppliers for us to use in our projects. All of us are really excited about their finds and the trends we will be seeing more and more of in the coming year.

Cheers!
