In the long list of major milestones in life, buying your first family home ranks pretty high. Years of planning, saving, dreaming, and stalking your most sought after neighbourhood finally pays off.  You have a place you can truly call your own, and decorate however you like!

Our clients came to us after moving from their downtown condo into their first family home.   As with most first time home buyers, budget was a major consideration, so with a savvy mix of splurging and saving we helped make their design dreams a reality.  We focused on sourcing gorgeous furniture and upgrading builder grade details to create a unique space they loved and could truly call their own.

THE NEW YOUThe framed art are all original pieces purchased from Etsy, and lend a bit of whimsy to the space.  To help stay on budget, we framed the pieces in Ikea “Ribba” frames, but then splurged on custom mats to elevate the look of the art.  In many cases, spending a bit extra to get EXACTLY what you want pays off.  We had the living room outfitted with beautiful custom furniture from Gresham House.  In order to offset the cost, we selected reasonably priced fabrics with high durability.  The rich sapphire tone of the couch is a stunner!

-Hacked- Ottoman (3)We fell in love with the lines of the base of an ottoman from Gresham House, but felt the clients needed a more practical piece to set their books and treasures.  So we re-imagined it as a hard topped coffee table!  We ordered it without upholstery and had a custom top made – a definite splurge, but so worth it!

NAVY ISLANDAll of the flooring and all of the  millwork throughout the home was the same species and stain of wood.  In order to create a more unique and visually interesting space, we had the kitchen island painted a deep navy blue (echoed in the custom couch upholstery) and the fireplace millwork a rich ivory.  We chose a small geometric fabric for the custom drapes to add a graphic punch in the living room.

In a further nod to budget, we were able to accessorize (including lamps!) from local retailers such as West Elm and HomeSense.  Both can be a bonanza of unique and reasonably priced treasures!

We were honoured to have worked on this familys’ major home milestone. We loved having a hand in creating a beautiful space where they will be making so many happy memories!
