The Riverdale Residence project is one we hold near and dear to our hearts.  We adore these clients –  their determination and spirit during trying times truly embody what we love about our fair city.

The clients contacted us in May of 2013 with plans to do a small refresh of their beloved family home that backs onto the Elbow River.  They were thinking small scale, perhaps some paint, new flooring and a few new pieces of furniture.  Enough to keep things up to date for another five years or so before downsizing.

Plans changed dramatically on June 26th, 2013 when the city of Calgary was devastated by one of the worst floods on record.

When we were finally able to re-enter the home,  we found the main floor held 6 inches of water, while the basement was completely flooded.  It quickly became clear that both levels would have to be completely gutted.    Along with our resilient clients, we came up with a design that would transform a disastrous event into a thing of beauty.

We took advantage of tons of natural light and breathtaking views and employed pops of bright cheery colour and natural elements throughout.  Our clients were so pleased with their “new” old home, plans to downsize were shelved – they have decided to stay!

Over the next few posts we will take a more in-depth look at different aspects and rooms of the Riverdale Residence.  For now, check out some highlights of one of our all time favourite projects.  Enjoy!
