Remember the days of a formal sitting room? A room that was ONLY used when company came over? A room often filled with very formal, very uncomfortable, and very fussy furniture?
Do those types of rooms exist anymore? If they do, they are few and far between! The families we work with crave a space where they can relax, read a book, or chat with friends – all without worrying about the kids knocking over the crystal tchotchke that was a gift from Great Aunt Martha.
This week on the blog, we take a look at a stylish and inviting family room.
We started with a gorgeous neutral palette, adding pops of colour throughout the room with a mixture of custom and store bought accents. The grey leather sectional was a kid-friendly choice. Sophisticated and durable – no need for plastic slip covers! The chevron rug adds a bold pattern to the room, without being overpowering.
The stunning twin console lamps have the same mid-century modern feel as the side table. The lamps also have a dash of the same sunny yellow accent as the pillows. Should the urge hit to change things up a bit, the “colour” pieces in the room can be easily replaced with another hue. The chunky sweater knit poufs are yet another pop of colour and provide fun extra seating.
Our clients were hoping to incorporate an existing and much loved reading chair into the family room. Luckily, the colour and style lent itself perfectly to the room and we were able to tie the colour in with the sepia toned art piece over the sectional. We created a cozy corner, perfect for a cup of tea and a good book. We love it when a plan comes together!
Our clients are thrilled with their space – and so are we! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
