Vintage Touches for a Boy’s Bedroom

My design team and I just finished this adorable bedroom for one of our young clients and I just had to share these photos with you because I am so thrilled with the result! My client’s mom wanted to keep things pretty safe in terms of colour, furniture and fabrics, so I selected basic pieces that could be switched up and changed with her son’s tastes as he grew. We selected a simple grey and navy blue striped fabric for the drapery, classic navy blue bedding, and a blueish grey for the walls. The built-in bookcase was painted a rich shade of midnight blue for some contrast, and the rest of the wood furniture was ordered from Restoration Hardware.

Once the room was completed with these foundational elements flexible for future decorating, it still needed a little zing. Enter decorative accessories, the final touches that add that “special something” and punch of personality to a space. I had picked up a pile of vintage pennants of holiday destinations from the 60’s at a great little antiques shop in Vancouver months before, knowing that one day I would find a the perfect spot for them. These vintage holiday pennants (which were framed and hung above the bed) became the driving force for the rest of the decor in this little guy’s bedroom. I wanted the room to feel like it was decorated with souvenirs  which had been collected on family road trip vacations. I scoped out a few additional road signs, some antique trophies, lamps with birch tree trunk bases and some other accents in preppy Kelly green to pull the entire thing together. With these unique elements and the zip of green, the room came to life! It is amazing how just a few unique accessories add personality and pizazz to a basic boy’s bedroom.

Cheers!

Jacqueline

What an incredible room! I love all the little touches you added like the signs and the woodland like throw pillows as well as the table lamps with the solid wood bases. Gorgeous

Very nice Jacqueline! Are these the vintage pieces you picked up in Vancouver last year? They really add to the dimension of the space. Lucky boy!

Thanks Nyla! Yes, some of these items are from my treasure hunt in Vancouver last October and the rest are from local sources. I really enjoyed finding these unique things for his bedroom.
