What’s Cooking in Canadian House and Home

There are few things in a home that marry technology and aesthetics better than kitchen appliances. Refrigerators, ranges and ovens have become hi-tech things of beauty. They are essential pieces of equipment, but in this day and age of the open kitchen, they have to look spectacular too. With the latest and greatest gidgets and gadgets surrounding our everyday life, appliance companies have also really stepped up their game in terms of offering new fangled options to charm even the most supreme techno geeks. Canadian House & Home magazine put the spotlight on the latest trends in kitchen appliances in their annual kitchen issue and I was honoured to be asked to weigh in on the topic. Check out the article, “What’s Cooking” in the March edition to see the latest and greatest in appliances. In addition to my thoughts on ranges vs. cooktops, designers from across the country dish on what’s hot in kitchen design.

Pick up the March edition of Canadian House & Home for my tips and other great kitchen renovation information and ideas!

Hi there, I wanted to ask a question regarding countertops. I am choosing a stone for my island and I have always been drawn to marble. I have read so many articles on the pros and cons and I feel like I am making an informed decision. However, every time I mention this to a designer or am at the stone yard searching for the perfect slab I see the look on everyones face when I say what I’m looking for. I have 3 kids under 4….am I being unrealistic that marble will work in a casual, family home?? Please help, your opinion would be fantastic!! Welcome back to blogging….I love reading your blog!

Hi Angela, Thanks so much for stopping by to read the Pink Chandelier. It’s good to be back at it again!
In regards to marble countertops, I’m a big fan. But, you need to know that they do require a different level of care and maintenance than granite. Most installers or kitchen designers won’t recommend them because they don’t want to have clients coming back to complain that the marble has stained. But if you know what you are getting into and you are comfortable with the pros and cons, then go for it! Here is an article I wrote a few years ago about white marble countertops. I hope you find it helpful! http://www.reenasotropa.ca/blog/2010/05/26/white-marble-kitchen-countertops/
