Mudroom: A transitional space between the outdoors and inside the home. The mudroom is a high traffic area that takes quite a beating which is why durability is high on the list of importance in the design process. That being said, durable does not equal boring – in fact, it can be quite the opposite.
We like to have a little bit more fun with these spaces! We have found a tried and true method for designing mudrooms that just works. In this blog, we’re going to show you examples of our general mudroom approach and the method to our madness. A few staples in our mudrooms include:
- Use of lockers complete with hooks and a bench rather than coat closets with doors
- The inclusion of a graphic element into the space through floor tile, carpet or wallpaper
- We make use of overhead space with closed cabinets for off-season items
- We love to add bursts of colour and personality through the use of hardware and accessories. Example: Coat hooks are a great way to add sparkle, colour, and texture!
Let’s take a look at some of these tips and tricks in action!
